Oil thermostat controlling an oil-cooler bypass valve

For flights in low outside air temperatures, a thermostatically-controlled bypass valve to allow the oil to bypass the oil cooler is possible. The valve can be located in the oil filter mounting adapter and maintains 180 degree oil temp, no shutters needed. One example mentioned on the CorvairListServe is an oil thermostat from Lockwood that can allow the oil temperature to get to 180 deg. in about 10 minutes even on very cold winter days in Vermont. It also maintains 180 deg. when flying in temperatures that are in the minus numbers, something that would probably not be possible without such a setup.
