Moldex

Moldex does crankshaft nitriding for Corvair conversions. They do them to William Wynne specs. Moldex knows who William Wynne is and knows exactly what is needed to be done to the cranks. This company comes highly recommended on the Corvair engine lists for their worksmanship. The recommended procedure to get your crank sorted out from WW is as follows:

Moldex has had delays in processing our cranks because they don't have the surplus manpower to do the tasks that Corvair aircraft builders need that are not common to car cranks, ie threading and work with the gear. After some background work, here is our new procedure.
After taking the crank out of your core, wrap it up and mail it to Roy at Roy's Garage. Send a check for $625 along with the crank. You can email him specific questions at his website. The mailing address is:

Roy's Garage
3564 Hudson Road
Osseo MI
49266

Roy will remove the gear and thread the crank. In batches, he is going to hand deliver them to Moldex, Where they will be magnafluxed, cleaned, ground, nitrided, polished, straightened and remagnafluxed. Then Roy will press on a new gear, box it up and ship it back. Doing it this way allows Moldex to focus on what they are good at, and work it in batches. Turn around time can be as low as 20 days.
