Heat muff
There are a whole lot of ways to provide heat to the cabin, including warmed seats, but a heat muff over the engine exhaust is one solution.
Advantages:
- Relatively light weight
- Simple
- Uses existing heat
- Can adjust airflow into the cabin to regulate the heat
- Can be used to defrost the windscreen
Disadvantages
- Can introduce carbon monoxide to the cabin
- Don't use a cabin heat muff without putting in a CO detection AND warning device in the cabin to notify you of carbon monoxide, which is deadly.
Van's Aircraft sells a premade cabin heat muff. Their product, is thumbnailed right. It can fit on either the left or right side of many exhaust systems. Vans makes one of these for 1 ¾" diameter tailpipes and another for a 2" tailpipe. Check if your tailpipe diameter will work for this product before ordering. The muff is 8" long, with a 4 1/2" dimension from the center of inlet hole to the center of the outlet hole. I'm not sure what the material is from which it's made. The muffs are sold for about $120.
Vans also sells a
heater selector box to route air into the cabin or vent it.
