Ellison throttle body injector

MarkLangford has a lot of experience with the Ellison. He says he has 1060 hours on the plane (July 2011), mostly on auto fuel and for the last year using E10. The Ellison was used for 500 hours on the 3100cc engine with WilliamWynne's front bearing installation, for a total of 1060 hours between the 3100cc and the 2700cc engine. He reports that the Ellison has performed flawlessly and has never been adjusted prior to first flights. The following is a summary of some further observations by him:

The Ellison TBI has an integral pressure regulator on the side (the round aluminum disk) that knocks incoming pressure down to something around 1/2 PSI. I've run mine with as much as 9 PSI and couldn't tell any difference to running it at 1.5 PSI, so the fuel pressure behavior is similar to that of a carburetor.

The Ellison is very difficult to start without a primer of some sort. Mine is an electrically operated solenoid that gets it's fuel supply directly off the fuel line to the carb, which is always pressurized when the ignition/fuel switch is on. The solenoid is energized by a push button on the instrument panel. This arrangement has worked flawlessly since day one, resulting in almost instant starts, and has been known to make up for missing fuel when vapor lock set in on takeoff once, long enough for things to cool off and return to normal.

Mark points out that the RotecTBI is very similar to the Ellison except that the fuel pressure regulator is a separate part that can be remotely located. Regarding CarbHeat , he outlines his system on his website, which provides an extensive amount of information about his fuel system and how it functions in conjunction with his Ellison.
