The process

Welcome to my wiki. Here's the process:

  • Send me an email.
  • In your email requesting permission to join the wiki site, please provide some information about who you are and which skills you may be able to bring to move the project forward, whether they are design skills, IT, CADD, etc. I look forward to having you aboard.
  • If you are interested in participating, send me:
    • Your first and last names
    • email address you want used for correspondence and change notifications from the wiki
    • Telephone number
    • Your website or build log site
    • Country
    • Your aviation, design, etc., background and role you can play in adding to builder's knowledge
  • Once I have that and I'm comfortable you aren't a Russian spambot or someone who'll post information leading to safety-of-flight issues by unsuspecting readers, I'll register you and you'll get an email giving you access to the Build Wiki
  • Please feel free to add more detail about yourself and your background that will provide other users to this site some insights into your qualifications.
  • Wait for an email from me saying that you are able to create pages or edit content. Please be patient - this is not a full time job for me.
  • I retain the right to revoke your access at any time or simply saying 'No' to your request.
  • When you get an email from me saying you are good to go, please add your experience and expertise to the site, and thank you.

Why this process

Wikis inherently are designed to allow people to add or edit content easily using a browser, but to prevent a free-for-all, rubbish information, or spam - approval is required. So to ensure that I am talking to a human interested in aviation and capable of writing structured sentences that are beyond a bot's capabilities, an email is first required spelling out your interest in the project, your background and how you can contribute to the Build Wiki.

Some rules

I welcome your interest and very much hope you will contribute to this site and project. But note that this is a privately owned and operated wiki and there are some rules of conduct:

  • Don't post any content on this site that you don't want to share with the project or the public
  • Ownership of content on this site belongs to Smit Industries to do with as it sees fit
  • Users should post aviation-related information pertinent to the goals of the project and this site or experimental aviation communities doing similar projects
  • While information about vendors, tools, commercial activities and companies is allowed and is a key element on this wiki - how else are we likely to get an aircraft built - information needs to be factual, referenced, and specific to the component or aircraft type, or specifically relevant to the issue or question at hand. This is a safety-of-flight issue. If the wiki administrator finds that a user is posting information that promotes a course of action, or a part, or a process, or a vendor in a manner that the administrator considers to be problematic, the administrator reserves the right to summarily delete the user.
  • Leave your politics and your religion somewhere else. No signatures with religious, political, sexist, my country right or wrong, or other non-technical information is allowed on this site.
  • Be civil. This is not the place for flame wars.
